  • Dental injuries.

At Allround Dental, we also offer sedation options for people with significant dental anxiety or those undergoing lengthy procedures.

Tooth Extractions in Horsham

Here’s what you can expect from your extraction appointment:

  • First, your dentist will apply local anaesthetics to the affected tooth and surrounding gum tissue. This will completely numb the area, so you won’t feel any pain.
  • The dentist will use specialised tools to gently loosen your tooth and lift it from the socket. Again, this is painless, and you won’t feel anything other than slight pressure as the extraction is taking place.
  • Once the tooth has been removed, your dentist will clean and disinfect the socket.
  • A gauze will be placed over the extraction site, which when bitten down on, will provide firm and steady pressure to help slow any bleeding.

Are tooth extractions painful?

Tooth extractions should never be painful. Your Allround dentist will ensure that your tooth and the surrounding tissue is sufficiently numbed by local anaesthetic before commencing the procedure. You may feel some discomfort following the extraction and once the anaesthetic has worn off, but this should be minimal and easily remedied through over-the-counter medication.

How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?

This entirely depends on the complexity of your case, but most people will feel back to normal in just a few days. Most people will return to work or school within a day or two.

Can I eat after a tooth extraction?

Yes, you can. However, we recommend avoiding crunchy or hard foods for the first few days. Softer foods like rice, eggs, pasta, and yoghurt are excellent options after an extraction. We also suggest you avoid drinking through straws so as not to dislodge the blood clot, which can cause a painful condition called ‘dry socket’.

Is there any aftercare needed after tooth extractions?

After your extraction, we will provide you with a detailed list of aftercare instructions, which include keeping the extraction site clean, taking any mediation as directed and avoiding strenuous activity for at least 48 hours.
