Dental IV Sedation in Sussex

We offer sedation-assisted dental treatment for a couple of reasons, namely:

  • For patients who have crippling dental anxiety that prevents them from having necessary dental treatment.
  • For patients, undergoing long procedures such vas dental implant surgery.
  • For patients with a strong gag reflex, or a low pain threshold unaffected by topical local anaesthetic.

If you have been putting off visiting your local Horsham dentist due to your anxieties, our friendly team would be happy to welcome you into our practice for a general conversation about our safe sedation options.

How does IV sedation work?

IV sedation is not the same as being ‘put to sleep’ for a surgical procedure. Instead, you will be fully awake but have reduced awareness, feeling relaxed, sleepy, and most importantly, care-free! This procedure, conducted by our trained professionals, involves administering sedative via injection to your arm or hand, and is entirely safe for most people who require it.

Asessment

Your Allround dentist will conduct an evaluation of your overall health and medical history to determine if IV sedation is a safe option for you.

BOOK CONSULTATION

Administering the sedation

If sedation has been determined the right option for you, on the day of your procedure, our trained sedationist will administer the sedative through a cannula, the dosage of which will be closely monitored and adjusted throughout the procedure to ensure your safety and comfort. The sedative effect will take place within a few minutes making you feel drowsy, relaxed and pain-free, but awake and semi-conscious.

Aftercare

After your procedure, the effects of the sedative may linger for a while. You will remain in our care until your dentist determines it is safe for you to go home. You will need someone to drive you home and should plan for someone to stay with you for the remainder of the day as the affects wear off.
